HPV Vaccine: Un-safe and In-effective, Explained

Cervical cancer ranks second among women's cancers next to breast cancers in India, with over 1,23,000 new cases. It is one of the leading cause of death in women. The primary cause of cervical cancer is the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is a group of more than 200 related viruses with more than 20+ subtypes that causes cervical cancer in people with Cervix. While many types of HPV are harmless and do not cause any symptoms, others can lead to health problems such as genital warts and various forms of cancer some leading to death.


Union health Minister of India announced in Parliment that Indian Government is planning to introduce HPV Vaccine to National immunisation program. This means, HPV vaccine will be given to all girls in India betwen 9-12. This will cost hundreds of crores of public taxed money.

Union Government of India is planning to introduce Serum Institute developed Cervavac HPV vaccine to Universal vaccination schedule. Usually, Cervical cancer is caused due to 50+ virues. But, Serum Institute says Cervavac provides protection against only type 6, 11, 16 and 18 leaving the risk due to other strains.

HPV is so common that nearly all sexually active individuals will contract it at some point in their lives. This virus is transfered from men body to women during intercourse. About 90% of HPV infections are cleared by our own body within one or two years, if they have good immunity. It is only under extraordinary circumstances, it cause cervical cancer. 

Adverse effects of HPV vaccination:

Since under Universal vaccination program, vaccination is also administered to healthy individuals, the safety testing standards of vaccine is high as vaccine might make healthy individuals sick.

USA has been using HPV vaccine for more than 16 years since 2008. In USA, Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (V.A.E.R.S.), reported 15,037 girls affecting from side effects due to the HPV Vaccine. Many girls also died due to this vaccine.

The reported side effects include Guillian Barré Syndrome (paralysis lasting for years, or permanently sometimes eventually causing suffocation), lupus, seizures, blood clots, brain inflammation and more. Parents are usually not made aware of these risks before vaccinating their children.

As of December 2023, in US there have been over 100 cases filed in the class action lawsuit against Merck against injury from the HPV vaccine. Millions of dollar have been distributed to HPV vaccine injured in USA. The trials are set to focus on two of the most serious injuries reported: Premature Ovarian Insufficiency (POI) and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). 

Premature Ovarian Insufficiency also called early menopause is loss of normal function of the ovaries before the age 40.In early menopause, the ovaries don't produce normal amounts of the hormone oestrogen or release eggs regularly. Infertility is the common effect of this disease.

Its is interesting to note that no clinical trials for Serum Institue's HPV vaccine has been conducted to its effects on infertility on women. This means that Cervavac, the HPV vaccine can cause early menopause for healthy Indian girls.

In India, Illegal human trail of HPV Vaccine was sponsered by the PATH and Bill Melinda gates foundation(BMGF) happened during 2010. The parents and children were not informed about the potential side effects about the human trail of HPV vaccines. They were not consented before they were subjected to clinal trails. They choose adivasi and tribal population of Andra and Gujarat for this human study. The reason was many tribal and adivasi population are not literate so they can't create an issue on consent or report any adverse effects after vaccination to anyone. 

Serious adverse events had been reported on these illegal human trails. 7 girls died during this clinical human trail. 72nd Parliamentary committee was setup by Government of India to enquire into these illegal human trail and death of tribal children. The report was published in 2013. The committee accussed PATH and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation of criminal negligence in HPV vaccine trails. The report also added that the illegal human trails conducted on children of age 9- 14 were unauthorised and unethical. Though the committee report created a huge uproar among the public, mainstream media silently concealed the issue. The report also added many girls lost their mensturation after HPV vaccine.

Till now, no legal actions were taken against the offenders. Experts question, "If HPV vaccine is safe as claimed by Bill & Melinda gates foundation, Why can't they publish the human trail data they collected from Human trails? Are they trying to hide something?"

US trail data on HPV vaccine also indicate higher percentage of miscarriage for HPV vaccinated women. Some data from clinical trails also says, within months of having HPV Vaccine, miscarriage is twice higher than that of unvaccinated. The miscarriage rate was 27% for vaccinated vs 12% for unvaccinated.

In Japan, HPV vaccine was suspended from National immunisation program after reporting serious adverse effects on women including high rates of miscarriage after vaccination. There is an ongoing lawsuit against HPV vaccine in Japan's courts.

Other Risk factors:

Cervical cancer is not only caused due to Human papiloma Virus. Its is a multifaceted disease. Risk factor for cervical cancer varies from smoking, Obesity, having a weak immune system, and long-term use of oral contraceptives for more than 10 years, early sexual contact etc.. The risk is coupled with poor sanitation and poor nutritional intake. Only under rare conditions, HPV can cause cervical cancer. And it is also important to note that Serum Institute's Cervavac label itself mentions that its HPV vaccination doesn't protect everyone from cervical cancer.

Pap smear test is used for diagnosis of cervical cancer. Early diagnosis of HPV infection means cervical cancer can be effectively treated and hence cured. It is only when the screening is not done for many years, it may lead to death due to cervical cancer.

It is recommended by the doctors and scientist to do Pap smear test even after HPV vaccination. In countries, like India, where rural population has no access to screening for cervical cancer or people lack basic awareness about Cervical cancer, Universal HPV vaccination is a waste of public money. It is proven that taking proper nutritional food reduces the risk of cervical cancer. Good Nutritional food is a effective treatment for many other diseases also. So, experts argue that with proper screening and providing good nutritious food is the right public health intervention rather than ineffective unsafe HPV vaccination. 

Women's overall sexual health perspective is absent in understanding cervical cancer. We need proper sex education to young girls to fight against cervical cancer. Experts also aruge that there is inadequate access to screening & diagnosis for cervical cancer in India.

Long term studies of SII's cervavac is also not done. The clinical trails have been done only for 220 days. 80% of cervical cancer is caused above the age of 40. When there is no long term studies, what is the point of vaccinating young girls of age 9 to 12 remain unanswered.

With unknown efficacy, serious side effects, lack of understanding of infections, HPV vaccine could be dangerous and ineffective.

* Reducing all kinds of stress 
 
* Take nutritious food.

The screening process for HPV infection(Pap Smear test) should usually start at the age of 26. It safe to do screening with the interval of 3 years to be completely safe from cervical cancer deaths.

Before vaccinating against HPV, it is the right of every women to know the background of HPV vaccine. Share it with all parents, teachers, friends, girls, women who are at the risk of un-safe and in-effective HPV Vaccine. Let them make a informed decision about HPV Vaccine.

Bill Gates GM Mosquitoes causing Paralysis in USA

A Biotech company called Oxitec, which is funded by Bill Gates, released "hundreds of millions of genetically modified mosquitoes" in Florida.
